Distortions that result in clearly different coordination geometries described for each coordination number, and several times to raise doubt about the existence of chemical bonds. A recent study of [Zn(Phem)2Ac]BF4 (B.L. Rodrigues. Acta Cryst. (2004). E60, m1166) shows asymmetry coordination in Zn-O bonds, with d[Zn-O1] = 2.293(3)A and d[Zn-O2] = 2.149(3)A. This work presents crystallographic and spectroscopic studies of two new nickel compounds. Compound [Ni(Bipi)2Ac]BF4 shows the metal and the acetate in crystallographic special position (axis 2), which requires equivalence between the bonds Ni-O. [Ni(Phem)2Ac]BF4, on the other hand, does not present the metal and acetate in special positions. Despite of this, this compound also presents equivalence in the coordination between the metal and each acetate oxygen. Furthermore, through studies of Hirsfeld surfaces intermolecular interactions are identified, between individual molecules in the crystal, hydrogen bonds. Diffraction results for polycrystalline samples and compared to the simulated diffraction patterns from single crystal diffraction, indicate that crystalline materials are pure.
